Quite Incredible Natural Toothpaste
Feb 18, 2025
Something noteworthy I feel that is worth sharing is the toothpaste I have been using for the past week. This all natural, get the job done toothpaste comes in a lovely little jar and is in the form of a paste. As someone who is mindful of her dental health, being specific about the toothpaste I use has always been a priority.
The former priority was having illuminatingly white teeth (and a dark tan and bleach blonde hair) and hence, I used to brush my teeth with Pearl Drops from Grade 7 until age 28 probably (eek!). As time went on and I started waking up in 2010 to ingredients and how toxic some of our everyday products can be, I started paying more attention, and shifting my priority in the products I chose and of course the food I was eating. It took way more time for me to clue into cleaning up my thoughts to the degree I have now but this is not the point! When we know better in any category, we do better. Back to the topic of toothpaste.
Are you someone who loves a toothpaste that legit cleans? Perhaps we are spirit animals. I am someone who LOVES a toothpaste that cleans! My OG toothpaste, Pearl Drops (God bless), definitely created a sense of clean, however, it was one ingredient away from an abrasive bathtub cleaner! - or so I was told at the time, which made me think twice about my beloved, longtime choice in toothpaste. I retained that information and still ignored it for a while since it is HARD to change toothpaste...until your priorities really change.
As my priorities changed around my health, I started opting for cleaner choices in toothpaste but they were never a wow. I've used Marvis toothpaste, and while it comes in a beautiful tube and I don't mind the feel and performance, it still contains fluoride - an ingredient I'm not in the market to be ingesting. Shifting to more natural choices I have used Burt's Bees toothpaste and have been using Dr Bronner's all natural toothpaste, which is fine, and while I absolutely love Dr. Bronner's as a brand for some many things and have used them long time, I have not been blown away with the toothpaste. Like, the super clean teeth feeling was missing! We brush our teeth at least twice daily and hence this product matters - at least to me!
Oral health is incredibly important. If you are not cleaning your mouth properly, it's not only your teeth that can be negatively affected, so can the rest of your organs and body systems. PS - this is a reminder to get your dog's teeth cleaned as well, if you have a dog! Not only will this one simple act of care improve their day to day quality of life, it may extend their lifespan, and if you're like me, my dogs are going to live until age 24, so they get their teeth cleaned :)
Back to us, the humans and the all natural toothpaste I am now hooked on.
The current all natural and vegan toothpaste I've started using is by another brand I love longtime called Anima Mundi. They actually call it tooth polish. The consistency of this toothpaste is actually great. I'm not someone who wants a foaming at the mouth lather for toothpaste. I would rather a bit of a paste to cleanse my teeth, and that is what this toothpaste is. A pearl-sized amount of paste gets the job done on a dry toothbrush. The ingredients in this toothpaste are a blend of MCT Oil, White Kaolin Clay and essential oils which benefit not only tooth health but gum health.
A selling point for me, taken literally straight from their website, is that, "this Tooth Polish is a highly alkalizing plant paste filled with enzymes, minerals and probiotics. This nutritional polish is composed of protective antimicrobial herbs that also assist in detox and alkalinity." To note: any tooth cleaning agent that is antimicrobial is a fantastic alternative to fluoride, and this product is just that.
One of the big things I'm in the market to reduce is oxidative stress (stress that impacts cellular health), and fluoride in large doses or prolonged doses over time can cause oxidative stress in this manor. Anything that can support preventing oxidative stress, sign me up - especially if it's as simple as switching out a product.
What toothpaste are you using? What drives your decision making around this particular product?
