4 Juice Combos for: Skin, Gut, Heart, Workout Recovery, Immunity, Digestion and Dessert

Jan 25, 2025

This week I wanted to share a few of my top go-to feel good beverages, and by feel good, I don't mean comfort beverages - I mean literal feel good.

A few notes on juice, if you're unfamiliar to the game: a reminder that "heavy" fruits and vegetables don't always sit while. Example: I love carrots and beets to eat. In a juice, they make me nauseous. They're heavy. This isn't the case for everyone, I just thought I would mention it.

What else...some fruits, vegetable and herb combos are better for daytime and some are better for night. Any juice that has vitamin C in it, can be energizing. Romaine and mint, these are great to have before bedtime. I'll dive more into specific juices for different things (over time), and, I wanted to share these few with you for right now. They're simple, delicious, and pack a punch.

1. Lemon Ginger Juice. This is inspired by Eden To Go (a grab and go coffee and gourmet goods shop across from the airport in St Barts). I like their version and prefer my own. All this is is literally - lemon, ginger and filtered water. The secret (in my opinion): juicing the lemon with the skin on it. What I would do, is juice 4 lemons and a large piece of ginger, make a concentrate and divide it across 2-4 bottles (1 lemon per day, in theory). Sometimes I would do 2 lemons/day when I really wanted an immunity boosting "kick". One does need to be mindful of lemon on your teeth! Lemon is highly acidic and so rinsing your mouth after this DELICIOUS beverage, is a good idea. When I was feeling my best, I was drinking this as my first drink in the morning. I haven't been having it since I've been in Miami, but I do plan to get a juicer this week (a compact masticating juicer). Masticating simply means "slow juicing" as opposed to high speed (and heat) break down of whatever is being juiced. Slow juicing helps retain the vitamins and minerals of your fruits and vegetables, which is the point.

The two juicer's I have my eye on are: 1) the Dash Compact Cold Press Slow Juicer (on HSN for $50) and, 2) the Hurom Slow Juicer for $450 (more of a splurge). Both have great reviews.

Benefits of this delicious elixir:  high in vitamin C (the lemon), ginger is highly anti-inflammatory. This combo can be great for someone who is prone to inflammation or arthritis. Lemon water helps flush toxins, is alkalizing and is good for the skin. Tip: lime juice is actually great for improving skin texture. I share a "lime" juice in one of the juices below. Note: ginger is a blood thinner, so caution this if necessary.

2. A combo I longtime love: cilantro, watermelon, lime, filtered water. Cilantro is great for cleansing the body of toxins, removing heavy metals and bacteria (the kind that can cause infection), is rich in antioxidants, and the list goes on. Watermelon: great for muscle recovery (amino acid rich), hydrating, improves skin tone, great for heart health and reducing blood pressure. High in vitamin C, too. Lime helps reduce free radicals, improves skin tone and texture, hydrating, electrolytes like potassium and sodium. Great to helping reduce heart disease, kidney stones, and weight management (along with clear skin).

3. My top go-to green juice combo that is hydrating, alkalizing and vitamin and mineral rich: spinach, parsley, lemon, cucumber, ginger, green apple. Also can add in: lime, romaine, and mint to give a delicious twist!

I'm a huge fan of not over-complicating things, and these have been on repeat for me. The cilantro-watermelon-lime is an OG (truly, circa 2014). The whole blending of the lemon and ginger is new as of October 2024; and I instantly fell in love. This green juice is an update on a classic.

4. Honorable mention to a smoothie I have loved for a longtime! The Cinnamon Toast Crunch green smoothie by Jenny Sansouci, the one who inspired me in 2014 to start a blog and become someone who shared her knowledge and love of wellness. Here's the link.  I love, love, love this recipe! It's a little more dense and hearty (and sweet), and sometimes this is what we need.
