The Beauty Tool That Lifted My Jowls (And The Best Robe)

Feb 06, 2025

When I moved to St Barth in November of 2023 I took my facial and body tools with me, and I took great skincare products (non-medical grade, might I add). I kept to my rituals and routines and my environment definitely had a part to play in my face and body changing shape (happily aging backwards), and - there is a facial tool I was using then (November 2023 until June 2024) that worked wonders on bringing life back into my face. What's inside shows up on the outside (feelings, emotions, energy, our heart) and - we still get to do the work in the 3D, for example, taking care of our skin, body, etc. I'm recommitting to the practise I upheld on the island and will be resuming it consistently ASAP! I'll share the routine I was on at that time, and I'll share what I'm doing now - and I will of course share the specific tool I'm referring to. Excitement: at home use and it is so inexpensive it is wild (honestly I think it's $15).

Why I stopped with that one magical facial tool in my skincare routine? My routine as a whole changed, my energy changed and hence what I was doing with my energy changed. The change was that I relocated to the south of France for the summer and that I had to relearn many things. I.e. where I was walking, doing any shopping - groceries, mail, dog grooming, new beaches, favorite spots for a cafe or spending time, and the list goes on. I'm sharing this with you because - when things change in your world, so may your routines. This is ok! It is a superpower to be resilient, flexible and adaptable. That said, what you want to stay in tact, you get to mentally and physically keep pouring energy into, like watering a garden. I was only partially watering the garden (my skin routine) and I knew I was coasting on fumes. I wasn't taking this for granted by any means, but I knew I was doing it. Shame on you, Sloan! This is actually kind of a bad habit. The good news (at least for me), is that I'm breaking this habit of "coasting on fumes" in any area of my life because I know when I put proper energy into something I really do experience the results I want. And you can too!

My point in sharing a little backstory context with you as to what was happening when I stopped with this one action in my ritual - is that life happens, routines change, and you can be blind to it and just stop doing things that make you feel good. Could I have take the 5 minutes for this one beauty tool in my routine? Yes, but my mind was elsewhere and therefore so was my energy. Granted, this wasn't a health-critical step in my routine but it's one that made me feel better as a whole. Ask yourself today: what is it that could make your life a world better, if you just gave it 5, 10, or 30 minutes/day consistently? I know there's something. What is it for you? Write it down. The little things are the big things whether it's health related or vanity in look good feel good. It's all the same because it's how you feel, and how you feel determines how you think and move in the world.

Ok, back to what I was doing at the time the face was lifted and sculpted the best (IMO: in my opinion).

My Caribbean my skincare routine was pretty simple. No medical grade skincare. I used a hyaluronic, vitamin C, a face oil daily and honestly not even sunscreen every day. At night I would use a balm or moisturizer. One of the oils I used was carrot oil which is a natural sunscreen hence not constantly putting actual sunscreen on unless I was on the water surfing. In my signature course Unshakeable: Whole Body Healing, Confidence and Goal Achieving, I share all of my skincare and nutrition details and rituals in detail.

"The tools". I was using a facial dry brush (honestly feels like heaven on earth), gua sha and microdermal roller (1.5mm, I believe mine is, maybe it's 1.25mm. I need to check). The skincare tool that got whisked out of my routine was the dermal roller...and it is the single most powerful tool that I swear gives the facelift (tightens skin overall and hence lifts the jowls). Yes, it's important to get rid of dead skin (facial dry brush and or products will do this). Yes, the gua sha is actually pretty miraculous too BUT, I still do these things now, and they are not "the one" that produces collagen!

What the microdermal roller does is it creates small punctures in the skin that trigger the bodies natural healing process that can produce more collagen in the skin. This can help improve a number of things including acne scarring (I have plenty of this), sagging, wrinkling, skin texture and help minimize pores. When I dermaroll my skin at night I do not do extensive skincare. This is just me. You can do you. After I do a little rolling action, I put on either a) just a hyaluronic serum, b) a vitamin C, or c) do either hyaluronic or vitamin C plus a moisturizer or balm to seal in some moisture. Et voila!

I am an advocate of having a great facialist. They can reach places you can't! They can do extractions better than you - and the instruments and tools they have, can be quite miraculous. That said, I like to keep things simple, and depending on where I am, I like to take measures into my own hands on the daily hence home tools! My favorite facials in the world include:

Melissa Baker Faces - she is a celebrity facialist in Vancouver, Canada, and a good friend of mine.

Hannah at Gee Beauty Miami

Marine at Skincare Saint Tropez (she's the owner) - literal best facial of my life

Happy healthy aging!

Also - my favorite robe. Random but wanted to share. It's kind of the perfect weight to be warm but light in weight, but heavy enough weight. Washes well, too. I have a white one. PS - I do not receive affiliate commission for anything (at this time). I just love sharing. This is the dermaroller I have.
